School Dances
All school dances will be approved by both the Student Council and the
Administration. They will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 P.M. Tickets will be sold
on
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during all lunches, and Thursday after school
from 2:00-2:30 P.M. Tickets must be paid for at the time of purchase. Tickets
are
not transferable.
Dances are limited to Portsmouth High School students and their high school
age
guests. Exception for proms, request will be given individual consideration
All students must arrive at the dance prior to 8:30 P.M., and will not be admitted
late
unless granted prior permission by the Principal. If for any reason a student
leaves
the dance, he/she will not be readmitted. Students may not leave PHS dances
until
½ hour before the dance ends and during proms, one hour before end of
dance. If
any student displays inappropriate behavior, the student will be removed from
the
dance.
Students absent on the day of the dance may not attend that dance. For Saturday
dances, students must have attended school on Friday. Dismissals from school
on
the days of proms will not be honored until 12:21.
Students on out-of-school suspension, assigned to the Alternative Day Placement,
owing detention, or under exclusion, are not allowed to attend. Students
are subject
to immediate dismissal for inappropriate behavior, use of/or under the influence
of,
alcohol or drugs at or prior to any school function. In addition, students
will be
disciplined under the appropriate articles of Policy 5114.4.
Dress Code for School Dances
The following is the dress code for semi-formal dances at Portsmouth High
School.
Jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, gym or beachwear are not suitable for semi-formal
dances. The junior and senior proms are considered formal events requiring
formal
attire. Financial assistance for students facing economic hardship is available.
Social Functions
All school functions held after regular school hours are considered part
of the
educational program and as such are governed by school policies and regulations.
